About Me
John Evans began his career as a local newspaper journalist and his deep interest in aviation history led easily into research and documentation of the short but remarkable era of flying boats and their long connections with Pembroke Dock, where he lived for over 35 years. He also built up an extensive photographic archive and documentation on flying boats and on Welsh aviation from pre-World War I to the Cold War. In 2014, the same year that the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre was opened by Queen Elizabeth, he was awarded the BEM in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in recognition of his promotion of Pembroke Dock and its military history.
